Local Area Information

Cambridge is one of England’s oldest and most picturesque cities, with a superb architectural heritage.  The many University Colleges in the centre of the city boast some of the best preserved and most striking features of any buildings across the country.

The city centre of Cambridge is compact enough to walk around very easily, with a wide range of shops, bars and cafes.  There are many independent shops around the historic market place and two main shopping centres including the Grafton Centre, which contains many high street retail names and a Vue cinema, as well as the Parkside swimming pool.   The Grand Arcade, combines classical heritage with cutting edge retail to create Cambridge's newest 21st Century style destination including a brand new flagship John Lewis store and some great cafes and restaurants.

A short walk away are the famous boat houses, where the rowing crews can be seen practicing early in the morning.  There are many good pubs on the river Cam, along with plenty of opportunities to go punting.

A walk past the many bars and restaurants along Hills Road leads you to Parkers Piece, a favourite green for summer relaxation. Close to the historic centre, it offers a wide open space for games and picnics.

The Cambridge University Botanical Gardens are amongst the finest in Britain and there are museums and art galleries including the Fitzwilliam Museum which offers an extensive collection of fine art.

There are outstanding schools for all ages in Cambridge including The Leys, The Perse School and St Faiths. The acclaimed Addenbrookes Hospital, a centre of research excellence, is in close proximity.

Cambridge’s train station offers frequent services to London’s Liverpool Street and King’s Cross stations as well as Stansted Airport.  The M11 is close by providing a route into London, passing Stansted en-route, while the A14 almost circles Cambridge and gives access to Newmarket, Huntingdon and Norwich.
