2007 Annual Report

Educationary

Over the past few weeks, many of Georgia’s students have been involved in end-of-year standardized assessments.  How do you feel about Georgia’s testing requirements?

The amount of testing is appropriate. Assessments are an effective way to assess student progress and measure teacher, school, and system success.
Less standardized testing should be required. While assessments are important, there is too great a focus on testing for our students. The assessments put undue pressure on students, teachers, and administrators and detract from learning time.
We should look for a better way to measure educational progress. Assessment programs narrow student learning to only the content that is tested, and the stakes of these tests are too high.
