The Easter bank holiday weekend is the most popular time of year for homeowners to embark upon a spot of DIY.  But Countryside Properties is warning home owners that they are unlikely to add value to their homes and could even be lowering it with poorly executed enhancements.

A survey by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) found that homeowners may actually be decreasing the value of their homes and that people who spend thousand of pounds ‘improving’ their homes could be in for a shock when they come to sell up.

Yvonne Hudson-Green, Sales and Marketing Director for Countryside Properties comments:   “It is a common misconception that DIY improvements will increase the value of a home. In reality, the majority of home ‘improvements’ relate to personal taste, and can be low quality and done with cheap materials, which can put potential buyers off.”

She continues, “Buying a brand new property means that buyers do not have to suffer the cost of previous owners’ DIY disasters and will be able to move straight in without facing endless bank holiday weekends spent sawing and hammering.”

Buyers looking for a new property need look no further than Saffron Green, Countryside Properties’ new development on Peaslands Road in Saffron Walden, which offers the only newly built houses for sale in the medieval market town.

Saffron Green comprises a collection of 55 homes, with a mix of contemporary two bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom homes.  The exteriors of the homes have been attractively designed, while internally they are fresh and contemporary, providing a blank canvas for purchasers and removing the need for potentially costly DIY.

The development is conveniently located just under a mile from the bustling town centre, with its charming traditional cottages, upmarket shops and bustling market.  Saffron Green also boasts a range of sports and leisure facilities on site and nearby, including a full sized football pitch, sports pavilion, well-respected local golf course and the Lord Butler leisure centre down the road.

Nearby Audley End station, just over two miles away, offers services into London, Liverpool Street, with a journey time of just under an hour during peak periods. Historic Cambridge is 15 miles away to the north and Stansted Airport 15 miles to the south
