The scheme will include some 2.3 million sq ft of new biomedical research, higher education and clinical treatment space to accommodate the expansion of the existing Addenbrooke's Hospital. Serving the site there will also be a new learning centre, conference and hotel facilities, as well as additional retail and restaurant accommodation.
The Campus is already one of the leading centres for medical and biomedical research and development in Europe as well as an academic clinical centre of international stature. The UK is the largest bio-tech market in Europe raising more money than any other European country for research in this field, and Cambridge is the centre of the biomedical industry in the UK.
The UK Government has selected the Campus as one of only five 'Comprehensive Biomedical Research Centres' in the UK. This has secured significant ongoing investment and highlights the project as a driving force in the delivery of ambitious healthcare targets.

A new 27,000 sq m Laboratory of Molecular Biology, designed by RMJM Architects for the Medical Research Council, is fully operational as the first phase of the Countryside/Liberty development.
AstraZeneca will be locating its new UK-based global research and development centre and corporate headquarters to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. By 2017, their new site will house a highly-skilled workforce of approximately 2,000.
The world renowned Papworth Hospital will also be relocating to the site. This will enable better integration of clinical services with Addenbrooke's and greater investment in research in these fields.
The Cambridge Biomedical Campus received the 'Place Making Award' at the Property Awards 2014.
Countryside is well underway with the adjoining Great Kneighton development, a major new housing scheme, which, together with other housing schemes in the Southern Fringe, will provide up to 4,000 new homes.
There is a new road providing access into the site from the Hauxton Road and Junction 11 of the M11. The new Cambridge Guided Bus route also serves the site providing fast, frequent services to the City Centre (12 minutes) and railway station (4 minutes).
