The very nature of our business means that the use of resources, both natural and manmade are one of our higher impacts on the environment. We are conscious of this issue and strive to reduce resource use and associated waste and to use ethically and environmentally sourced materials where feasible.
We have in place a Sustainable Procurement Policy which covers the approach we as a business take towards purchasing of goods and services in a sustainable manner and this is supported by our Timber Policy which details our commitment to use only sustainable certified timber on our sites.
We work with our suppliers to identify methods of construction and prefabrication to reduce wastage from offcuts and packaging on site and work with waste carriers to promote good practice in management of waste on site and our ability to divert waste from landfill. We have a corporate objective to reduce our waste and are targeting zero waste to landfill as a long term objective. The Group Waste Policy and Waste Procedure sets out our commitment and also best practice in waste management on site.
We work with our partner British Gypsum in order to utilise take back and recycling schemes for plasterboard waste and work closely with our Groundworkers to encourage the reuse of soil and aggregates on site thus reducing movements of waste from site and possible disposal in landfill.
In the design of our properties we consider and design out waste where possible, not just addressing the construction waste but also looking at the end of life of the materials and fittings used and their final disposal methods, targeting materials that can be reused or recycled.
