A qualified Chartered Accountant, Howell’s executive career was largely spent in the telecommunications and travel industries, having held senior finance positions at companies including Lastminute.com and First Choice Holidays, as well as being Executive Chairman of Western & Oriental plc.  Howell is currently Deputy Chairman of Aquis Hotels & Resorts and a Director of Youtravel.com.  He is also an experienced Non-Executive Director who will bring a wealth of development expertise, together with a broader business perspective, to Countryside.

Howell will succeed Andrew Carr-Locke on the Countryside board and as Chairman of the Audit committee.

Ian Sutcliffe, Executive Chairman of Countryside, commented: “We are very pleased to welcome David to the board. He will bring significant insight and market knowledge, particularly as a result of his work at Berkeley. He has worked across a variety of roles and industries and has considerable capital market experience, so he will be a valuable asset in what is an exciting time for our rapidly growing business.”

He added, “All existing board members and I would like to thank Andrew Carr-Locke for his significant contribution to Countryside in the last four years.”

Countryside has embarked on plans to double in size over the next five years. During 2013, Countryside completed 1,560 new homes and this year expects to complete over 1,800.  The business is also creating more jobs, with 18% more staff employed now than 18 months ago. It recently announced its merger with premium housebuilder Millgate Developments, allowing it to expand its geographic reach and product offering.
