Countryside is the proud sponsor of one of the Fresh Gardens at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The RNIB/Countryside ‘Mind’s Eye Garden’ is a modern sensory garden, inspired by a joint scheme between Countryside and RNIB to redevelop the existing RNIB Community Living Service facilities at Redhill, Surrey. We are delighted to be partnering RNIB to provide them with a platform to promote this fantastic charity.

Share our passion for gardens and landscape at Chelsea Flower Show - by Dave Fountain

For Countryside, being involved with Chelsea Flower Show demonstrates the company’s commitment to excellent landscape design at all of our developments. Gardens, parks and green spaces are never merely an add on, they are always integral to the design of our schemes. That is why Countryside is endorsing the Landscape Institute’s charter for good practice in landscape design and implementation in new developments. It is also why Countryside is excited to be able to celebrate and share something of this passion for landscape design by taking part in the world’s greatest flower show.

There is nothing like building a Chelsea garden – it is always a hectic whirlwind of an experience but it is a fantastic privilege witnessing the show being built. It takes a lot of hard work from a lot of people and involves many long nail-biting days, but it always comes together for everything to be at the peak of perfection for judging. You can keep up-to-date with our progress on Twitter where you can also enter our competition to win tickets to Chelsea at https://twitter.com/countrysideprop

Our garden is certainly one of the most complex show gardens I have ever worked on, with a lot going on and lots to see. As a modern sensory garden, it uses colour, movement, water and huge array of different plants to provide textures, sounds and smells to stimulate the senses. Some of its more unusual features include an ‘edible wall’ planted with vegetables and herbs, a 3D living artwork of plants, a raised walkway and an eye-catching glass water feature.

We can’t wait to show off the finished garden and we hope that visitors to Chelsea and the judges enjoy it. If you can’t make it to Chelsea in person, the show, which runs from Tuesday 20th to Saturday 24th May, will be televised throughout the week on the BBC.

UPDATE – We are thrilled that the Mind’s Eye Garden has been awarded a Gold Medal and Best Fresh Garden.  For images and video visit the RHS’s website

We’d love to have your feedback on the Mind’s Eye Garden and Chelsea.
