Countryside is pleased to announce two changes to further strengthen its Board of Directors and ensure the right leadership is in place to drive forward the Group’s exciting growth plan.

Countryside announces David Howell as Non-Executive Chairman with Ian Sutcliffe changing role to Group Chief Executive Officer

David Howell, currently a Non-Executive Director, will become Non-Executive Chairman. Ian Sutcliffe will assume the role of Group Chief Executive Officer having been Executive Chairman. Both of these changes take place with immediate effect.

David has extensive corporate and industry experience. He was appointed as a Non-Executive Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee in April 2014 following 10 years as a Non-Executive Director of The Berkeley Group Holdings plc. Previously David held a number of other Board level positions, including as Chairman of Western & Oriental plc and as Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of lastminute.com plc.

David’s appointment as Chairman follows two Non-Executive appointments at the start of the current financial year with Baroness Sally Morgan and Amanda Burton joining the Group in October 2014.

Ian was appointed Executive Chairman in October 2013 following a successful career at Shell and at Taylor Wimpey where he served as UK Chief Executive. Ian held similar Board-level roles at SEGRO and Keepmoat Ltd and is also a Non-Executive Director of Ashtead plc.

Graham Cherry will become CEO New Homes and Communities, with Richard Cherry becoming CEO Partnerships. Other Executive Board Members will remain in their existing roles.

Non-Executive Chairman, David Howell, said: “I am delighted to be accepting the role and look forward to working with the Board at this exciting period for the Company. Ian has a vast wealth of commercial and house building experience which, together with Graham and Richard’s in depth knowledge of Countryside, will be invaluable assets to the Group as we implement our growth plan.”

Group Chief Executive Officer, Ian Sutcliffe said: “Countryside is in a fantastic position. I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the Group through the next stage of its development. We enter the New Year with a record order book, robust trading and a strongly positioned land bank, which gives us confidence in the continued growth of the business. I look forward to continuing to work closely with David, the Board and all of Countryside’s employees.”
