The job of a concierge is essentially to make residents at a development feel looked after, make their lives easier and ensure they are getting value for money from the service charges that they pay.

At your service: Concierge services at Greenwich Millennium Village - by Bill Clarke

At Greenwich Millennium Village help is on hand for residents 24-hours a day, 365 days a year from the concierge team. Typically we are responsible for taking in parcels, holding keys, assisting visitors and providing security, as well as being a port of call in an emergency. In practice, my staff are working in a place where people live and so if they can help, they will.

Greenwich Millennium Village is a large scale development where an innovative and vibrant new community has been taking shape over the past decade. At its centre, making sure everything is taken care of, the concierge service team is the friendly face of the village, always ready to assist residents in many ways.

As Village Manager, I am responsible for a team of 30, which includes gardeners, cleaners, maintenance staff and a safety officer, as well as those who work on the concierge desk. The concierge team is usually the first place residents turn if they have an issue with their property and we will often go that extra mile to help them if we can. We know many of the people who live here by name and everyone is very friendly – some of them simply want to stop for a chat. It is that sympathetic human interaction that many residents value, helping create a warm and inclusive environment.

All of the residents come into contact with the concierge team at some time – the majority of people who live here lead very busy lives and as most people buy what they need online nowadays, it is very useful to have the concierge to receive deliveries. Residents also appreciate the extra peace of mind in terms of security that a 24-hour concierge gives.

I have worked at Greenwich Millennium Village for four and a half years, so I am a familiar face to many of the residents. I live in Sidcup and grew up in Bermondsey, so I have witnessed the widespread regeneration going on across South East London over that time. The changes taking place are huge and the transformation of the Greenwich Peninsula has been pivotal for the fortunes of a much wider area.

We are proud of the happy and diverse community that has been established at Greenwich Millennium Village. My team makes a great effort to maintain high standards of service and the high quality of the public areas and green spaces, making sure this is a place that is well looked after for generations to come.
