Recent research from Strutt & Parker* found that 60% of house hunters aspirations to move stemmed from the desire to change their lifestyle, with 21% of prospective purchasers wanting to leave the city behind and relocate to a village. However, despite wanting to live the village lifestyle, these house hunters also want a home that combines traditional appeal with good broadband and easy access to local transport connections, allowing them the ability to work from home.

Striking New Showhome Showcases Versatile Homes at Abode

Ideal for prospective purchasers looking to become a ‘connected villager’, Countryside’s Housing Design Award winning development, Abode offers modern flexible living in the new Great Kneighton village, Cambridge.

Designed by Countryside and their award-winning interior designer Dapa, the brand new four-bedroom Hawthorne showhome at Abode, demonstrates how versatile the space inside these incredibly stylish properties is, meaning working from home for ‘connected villagers’ is easily achievable.

Andrew Loveday, Sales Director at Countryside, comments: “Our idea for the showhome was to create a modern, individual and striking scheme to compliment the architecture of the development. The new showhome beautifully showcases how adaptable our homes are for all types of customer, particularly those looking to change their lifestyle and become a ‘connected villager’.”

Rob Burton, Sales Director of Dapa, comments: “We designed the house aimed at an artistic family, so the interiors had to be incredibly creative, but also very practical. A key inspiration was the arty rendering and modern exteriors of the homes at Abode, while Cambridge’s arts and crafts background also played a significant part.

“We designed the house for a busy, working family with children of secondary school age, who all enjoy spending time together, so it was important for communal spaces to be universal. The dining area had to suit both family meal times and dinner parties for special occasions. It was important to get the mix right – a family who are all alike, yet enjoy their own hobbies; the son who likes rock climbing and the daughter who loves photography. Therefore, while each room is unique, there is a consistent theme running throughout.

“My favourite piece of furniture we used in the house is the stunning bespoke corner sofa in cognac brown leather which was specially made for the living room; it combines style and individuality, perfect for our sophisticated family. With each room’s design being so distinctive, my favourite colour scheme is in the master bedroom, with sumptuous liquorice and mustard tones with injections of gold; it’s such a striking room and the perfect escape at the end of a busy day.

With an abundance of space, The Hawthorne is set over three storeys, offering the practicalities of a fourth bedroom and study area on the ground floor, along with a garage with parking for two cars and a cycle store. The first floor is the heart of the house, with an open-plan kitchen/living/dining area, third bedroom and a central terrace accessed from the open-plan living/dining rooms and bedroom.

The top floor is a haven; the master bedroom suite has a private terrace, fitted wardrobes and ensuite bathroom. A guest bedroom with ensuite shower room and another private terrace completes the second floor.

When complete, residents will be able to take advantage of a 120 acre country park, including wetlands, woodland and ponds, along with allotments, playing fields and a range of play areas.

Abode is located just minutes away from the Great Kneighton access point for the award winning fast-track Cambridgeshire Guided Busway, which provides a 17 minute journey to the city centre and train station. Cambridge train station is served by fast and frequent links to London in as little as 49 minutes, as well as to Stansted Airport. Abode is just a few minutes from the M11 for London and the nearby towns of Newmarket, Huntingdon and Norwich. Cambridge also has a fantastic network of both foot and cycle paths integrated throughout the city for car-free travel.

The four bedroom properties are priced at £799,995 and the two bedroom apartments from £399,500. For more information on Abode visit www.abodecambridge.co.uk or call 01223 846 650.
