With the door firmly closed on 2016, it is time to say hello to the fresh interior design trends the New Year has in store.

Latest Interior Design Trends for 2017 - by Jon Pilling of Abode Interiors

Jon Pilling, Design Director at Abode, who created the stylish show home at St Luke’s Park, which was featured in our first ever time lapse video, shares his tips and easy tricks to stay on trend at home next year.

Dark – “The future trend is very fashion led and shades such as charcoal, deep navy and chartreuse remain a popular choice and are the top colours for a stylish interior. Several dark colours are due to appear early this year.”

Warm Grey – “Named by trend forecasters, WGSN, as ‘the driving colour for 2017’, grey is the perfect grounding neutral. When choosing the colour scheme of your interior, select three colours: a dark base, a lighter mid tone of that colour and your accent colour. At St Luke’s Park we used a smoky grey as the base, paired with a lovely ivory shade and the ever popular navy was our accent colour.”

Marble Effect – “You may have noticed that marble has been appearing everywhere and it looks like it’s here to stay for 2017. Marble patterns are appearing on clothes, bedding, fashion accessories, and of course it continues to be a popular choice for work surfaces. There are plenty of items you can collect to create your own take on a marble theme.”

Natural – “Using different variations of wood in your home is a quick and easy way to create a nice natural feel to a room. At St Luke’s Park, we used quality solid oak furniture to give a family friendly yet aspirational feel. Wood is a very appropriate finish for a family home and thanks to its timelessness, it will be consistent trend throughout the years.”

Brass – “Metallics were popular in 2016 and this year, we will see the switch from copper to brass and bronze. The darker tones will be well suited to the winter weather and create a sense of warmth throughout your home. Metallic accessories are also great way of brightening up your home – which is just what you need now the decorations have come down!”

Patterned Fabric – “What’s great about patterns are the possibilities are literally endless. Choose bold geometrics to create an upmarket feel, with as a much colour as you like. When choosing accessories for your own house, try and put a bit of your personality into it. If you’re smart, sensible or a little bit crazy, that should come through in cushions, accessories or artwork. Your interior should be a reflection of you and your family, otherwise it may look too staged.”
