We all know how important it is to make the most of summer here in the UK. Whether it’s getting out in the evenings and at weekends to make the most of your free time, or finding ways to entertain the kids during their six-week holiday, enjoying summer shouldn’t break the bank. Why not take a look at the low-cost suggestions below, to help you make the most of the summer!

Cost Effective Activities to do this Summer - by Mustapha Medajaoud

1. Markets
We can’t promise you’ll walk away without spending any money at some of the local markets available across the country! However, markets do promise a great way to spend your morning or afternoon, checking out the local produce and browsing the stalls. One of the most vibrant Markets in London, Roman Road Market is full of international cuisine and is situated on the oldest known trade route in Britain every Tuesday and Thursday. Six minutes from our St Paul’s Square development, you’ll be wondering where the hours went as you peruse what the market has to offer.

2. Museums
Gone are the days when museums were just staring at sculptures and attempting to understand long words. London is home to some of the most exciting, interactive museums in the country, inviting its visitors to completely lose themselves through activities, costumes and games. Our GMV development is fortunate enough to be situated just 15 minutes from the Royal Observatory Greenwich, the home of Greenwich Mean Time and the only planetarium in London. With a wealth of exhibitions and activities, and coming in at £9.50 per adult and £5 per child, the Royal Observatory offers a unique insight into space and time. We recommend you pack a picnic and make a day of it!

3. Beaches
One of the most exciting days out for all the family is the beach. When the sun is shining, you’d be excused for thinking some of Britain’s beaches are in the Mediterranean. The centrality of London, means in the summer months the capital often sets up its own temporary beaches! One of the most popular is London Royal Docks Urban London Beach - a stretch of sandy beach just 4 miles from our development East City Point in Canning Town. You’d be forgiven for forgetting you’re in the centre of London! The fantastic countrywide connections mean London is less than an hour from the infamous Brighton beach. A number of our developments outside of London also have road and train links to the coast, St Luke’s Park in Essex is less than a 25-minute drive for Southend-on-Sea.

4. Parks
Sometimes you just can’t beat a picnic in the park. Whether a romantic al fresco lunch for two, or a bigger affair with all the family, make sure to choose the perfect spot! One of our favourite parks is the beautiful Cambridge University Botanic Gardens, 40 acres of gardens and glasshouses less than 10 minutes from our beautiful Aura development on the outskirts of Cambridge city. For something even closer to home, Great Kneighton is on the doorstep of the stunning 120 acre Hobson’s Park. Already complete with a bird reserve and allotments, the park will soon include a BMX and skate park, perfectly situated to enjoy a picnic whilst the kids enjoy themselves.

5. Theatre
Going to the theatre doesn’t need to be expensive. A number of theatres offer last minute discount tickets, and most theatres also hold free exhibitions for budding theatregoers, which are perfect for a cheap day out. Why not combine both and spend the day immersed in your favourite plays and performances? Chatham boasts both the Central Theatre and the Brook Theatre, both under 10 minutes from our Azure development in St Mary’s Island.

Ideally situated for you to make the most of your surroundings, all of our developments have great connections with local cities and attractions. Keep up to date with what’s going on near you, to have an enjoyable summer which doesn’t break the bank!
