Just like many people, I had always aspired to live in London, but had thought it was too expensive and out of my budget. However, having moved from Leeds to London only two years ago, I am now the proud owner of a one bedroom apartment at GMV in Greenwich. I had saved a deposit just over 10 per cent of the property value, and thanks to the London Help to Buy scheme I was able to use the full 40 per cent equity Government loan to contribute to the remaining costs.
After moving from Leeds and before I was able to get onto the housing ladder, I lived in a rented flat with a friend of mine in Parsons Green, Fulham. Despite being able to negotiate a reasonable monthly rent, I always knew that one day I wanted to buy an apartment of my own. It was soon after I had settled into the flat that I started looking around for properties that I could potentially buy.
I am pleased to say that the London Help to Buy scheme definitely broadened my horizons by making it possible to look at homes priced around £150,000 above my original budget. When I discovered GMV on the Help to Buy website it immediately ticked all the boxes.
I couldn’t be happier in my new apartment. It’s generously sized and includes a large balcony and floor to ceiling windows that bring so much light into the rooms. I am a fan of the outdoors and was pleased to see how green and open the development is. There are also some great routes to run into Greenwich and down to the Thames Barrier. I am so grateful to be in the position I am in as my monthly mortgage repayments are less than I was paying to rent each month in Parsons Green!
My dream has finally become a reality, not only am I a proud home owner, but a home owner in such a fantastic and vibrant area that will only continue to grow and develop. I have found a home that compliments all aspects of my lifestyle and would definitely recommend GMV and the London Help to Buy Scheme to anyone looking for their dream home in the city!
